About 6 years back, with the advent of Japanese anime in India, I was hooked. Literally. My daily agenda(or so it seemed) was to get to school, study, come back home, do homework and watch anime. And the fact that I was at home for round about one and a half month due to a major accident made it an even more enjoyable experience. Anime's like Inuyasha :
and ones like The Vision of Escaflowne:And the Get Backers:
and many, many more!
And being the music buff that I was, I got addicted to the japanese music, especially to songs by Maaya Sakamota, SnOW, L'Arc En Ciel, Do As Infinity, Anna Tsuchiya, Hitomi Takahashi. But the more the songs got commercial, the less I started listening to them. Commercial songs aren't really my favorite kind of songs. I personally always prefer that one song from a really famous album that no-one's heard or the least commercial one. For example, most of the people I know, at least till date, haven't heard Shiver by Coldplay, yes, the most awesome song from the album Parachutes, since it's a little, well, my kind of music :p
So all that said and done, when I moved here to Kolkata about three years back, I had totally gotten over the whole Japanese fever. Since I was in no mood to watch anime anymore, I lacked inspiration to do anything back then, I turned to music to heal my chaotic mind. And boy didn't I discover a diamond mine, in that process. One November evening, while browsing Youtube, I came across this Korean Drama called Goong or Princess Hours. It was fantastic, absolutely, what with the immensely good-looking Joo Ji Hoon playing the arrogant but gorgeous Prince and the extremely cute and bubble Yoon Eun Hye playing the Princess. But what mainly caught my eye, or should I say ears, was the OST. This one song called Perhaps Love or Sarangeengayo. I had listened to it non-stop that whole night, in the process cooling my chaotic mind(the song happens to be the most played song on my iPod; 163 times :p)
The next summer after my board exams were done, I was basically at home for a pretty long time. Discovering Korean music made me fall in love with it immediately. Artists like Sung SiKyung, Epik High, DBSK/TVXQ(I <3 Rising Gods of the East...a total Cassie) were the few that I kept listening to over and over again, but due to the exams, my mum had strict rules over the usage of the internet. So once they were done, and this one day going back on Youtube, I came across a boy-group who's music not only made me go all crazy over them but till date is the BEST Korean boy-group I have heard. Super Junior had just come out with their extremely popular album Sorry, Sorry and I was in love. And I haven't stopped listening to them till date. Following all their releases closely, they have released two more extremely successful albums, Bonamana and Mr.Simple(with A-Cha, realeasing yesterday), they're getting better by the day. So, my day is incomplete if I dont get my daily dose of Super Junior.
The 2011 Super Junior, promoting Mr. Simple:
A few other band that I listen and love are: SHINee, C.N.BLUE(I totally intend to make a new blog post about this particular band), BIGBANG, Brown Eyed Girls, MBLAQ, a little bit of TRAX and Younha. Wonder Girls are really nice too, though.
So therefore, I recommend everyone out there to really listen to K-pop music, especially Super Junior, since they're immensely talented and write and perform fantastic music.
